A series of drone and missile assaults by Russia on Wednesday night resulted in at least three fatalities across Ukraine, according to Ukrainian authorities. The capital city, Kyiv, reported two casualties, including a 12-year-old boy, with an additional 18 individuals sustaining injuries. A separate fatality occurred in the southeastern city of Dnipro, with attacks also noted in other Ukrainian urban centers.
Concurrently, across the border in Russia’s southern Krasnodar Krai region, a Ukrainian drone attack reportedly killed two children, aged five and 14. The governor of the region announced these fatalities via Telegram.
These engagements represent the most recent hostilities following a brief cessation of fighting. This temporary truce had coincided with Orthodox Easter observances over the weekend. During this period, both sides levied accusations against each other for numerous violations of the ceasefire.
Details of Kyiv and Dnipro Attacks
In Kyiv, the mayoral office reported the deaths of a 12-year-old boy and a 35-year-old woman. Rescuers managed to extract a mother and her child from the debris of a 16-story residential building that had collapsed in the Podilsky district, located in the city’s center. In the capital’s northern areas, four emergency medical personnel were among those injured due to sustained shelling.
The central city of Dnipro also experienced a significant attack. Oleksandr Ganzha, the head of the regional administration, stated via Telegram that one person died and at least ten others were wounded. Online photographs depicted buildings engulfed in flames within Dnipro.
Wider Impact and Injured Civilians
Further incidents included a drone strike in Kharkiv, which injured a 77-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man. In the southern port city of Odesa, five individuals sustained injuries from an attack. These events underscore the ongoing nature of widespread hostilities affecting civilian populations.
The conflict in Ukraine has now entered its fifth year, a period marked by several attempts at peace negotiations, with the United States previously acting as a mediator. However, these diplomatic efforts have reportedly stalled, particularly after U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly redirected his attention to Middle Eastern conflicts.
Ukraine has consistently advocated for a comprehensive and stable ceasefire as the initial step toward achieving a lasting resolution to Russia’s invasion. Moscow, conversely, maintains that an agreement on a peace deal must precede any ceasefire, leading to accusations from Kyiv that Russia is not genuinely committed to ending the fighting.
