A Russian drone attack on a residential building in Zaporizhzhia has resulted in the deaths of two individuals. Efforts to negotiate an end to the ongoing conflict have been stalled since the commencement of recent hostilities in Iran. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s stated objective for the upcoming talks is to address the recent decision by the US to relax sanctions on Russian oil. These measures were initially imposed by Washington to help stabilize global energy prices.

Russian forces have repeatedly targeted Zaporizhzhia since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine commenced in 2022. This city is situated in one of the four southeastern regions of Ukraine that Russia has claimed to annex, although full control over these territories has not been established.
In a recent interview, President Zelensky conveyed that Ukraine is experiencing a shortage of missiles. He attributed this deficit, in part, to the conflict in the Middle East, which he stated was initiated by strikes from the US and Israel on Iran.
According to Zelensky, Russian President Vladimir Putin desires a prolonged conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran. The rationale, as presented, is that such a protracted engagement would divert US resources away from Ukraine, thereby weakening Kyiv’s position.
