An incident at a Munich scrapyard has resulted in the tragic death of an 82-year-old German man. The man was inside a car that was being processed for scrapping when a crane crushed the vehicle, causing fatal injuries.
Police have stated that the car was designated for disposal. It appears the man entered the vehicle unbeknownst to the facility’s staff. The event occurred on Wednesday afternoon within a company’s premises located in the Obersendling district of Munich. Details of the fatality were released to the public only recently.
The accident unfolded when a 60-year-old employee of the scrapyard was operating heavy excavation machinery. This equipment is routinely used to dismantle old vehicles. According to official statements, the employee utilized the crane to crush the car’s roof. Subsequently, the vehicle was turned onto its roof.
It was only after these actions that a witness observed a person inside the car. The 82-year-old man sustained fatal injuries as a direct consequence of the roof being crushed.
Emergency services were promptly notified. Firefighters, paramedics, and police officers responded to the scene. Recovering the man’s body from the crushed vehicle required specialized equipment operated by the fire service.
A spokesperson for the police confirmed that the vehicle involved did not belong to the deceased. Current beliefs suggest the victim, who resided in Munich, may have been at the scrapyard with the intention of collecting scrap metal.
The Munich traffic police have initiated a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding this fatal accident.
