Dublin Airport Seeks Public Assistance to Reconnect Parrot with Owner

Dublin Airport is currently appealing for public help in reuniting a lost parrot with its owner. The bird was discovered on the airport grounds on Easter Sunday under unusual circumstances.

Airport police located the parrot near Terminal 1, perched on a rubbish bin. This incident echoes a similar event at the airport in 2019, when another parrot was found attempting to take off from the main runway. Thankfully, that bird was successfully reunited with its owner, raising hopes for a similar positive outcome this time.

Care and Containment

Initial efforts to secure the bird were successful. One of the responding officers used food to gently coax the parrot. The bird reportedly became comfortable, even perching on the officer’s hand and shoulder. It was then safely secured and brought to a patrol vehicle, where it appeared to settle during the officers’ ongoing patrol.

Upon returning to the airport police station, the parrot received appropriate care. It was provided with fruit, water, and toys. A temporary enclosure was fashioned for its comfort using a dog crate and a brush handle. Airport officials confirmed that the bird had been well cared for overnight.

Community and Official Involvement

Relevant authorities and organizations have been informed. An Garda Síochána, the national police force of Ireland, along with a local pet shop and a nearby animal sanctuary, have been notified of the discovery. The airport has been actively disseminating details about the parrot on social media, hoping to locate its owner.

The airport has reported receiving several inquiries, some mentioning leg ring numbers. However, to date, none of these matches have identified the parrot in their care. Efforts to reunite the unforeseen aviator with its rightful owner are continuing actively.

“We look forward to helping this unexpected visitor get safely home,” a statement from the airport indicated.

Previous Avian Incidents at Dublin Airport

The presence of parrots at Dublin Airport is not an entirely new phenomenon. In 2019, an African grey female parrot named Hugo was reunited with its owner after being spotted preparing for takeoff on the main runway by a firefighter during a routine safety inspection.

More recently, in August 2025, the airport experienced another “surprise visitor” in the form of a “very chatty parrot who clearly wasn’t booked on any flight.” The airport also humorously considered renaming itself “Troy Parrott Airport” last year, following a notable hat-trick scored by the Republic of Ireland striker against Portugal.
